Mr. Yates was a retired farmer of Rappahannock county. Following the sale of his farm in 1928, he moved to Washington, D. C., Me twas born in Flint Hill, the son of Edward Yatefr and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Moore Yates. He is survived by his wife, Mrs- Ida Perry Yates, of Washington, DC.; three sons, "James E. Yates of Hqntly, Edward Moore Yates, Jr., of Arlington, and Frank A. Yates of Alexandria; three daughters, Mrs. Louisa P. Durant of Culpeper, Mrs. Mary Yates Morgan and Mrs. Julian Gibhs of Washington, D.C., and eight grandchildren..
Pallbearers were M. R. Bradford* Jr., J. Rodes Brown, and Nish North of Rappahannock, and Frank Cockrill, Montford ElliA, Carl Fray, T. S. Heriot, and Perry B. Simms, of Washington, DC.
Grand Jury Returns
Two Indictments
Circuit Court convened November V2, with Judge J. R. H. Alexander presiding.
A grand jury met and returned indictments against Otha McKinley Gatewood, for murder, and against Willene Truett, for perwas
set for trial on November 28. This case grew out of the murder of Brownie Clanagan in a shoot* ing which occurred two month t ago.

Immediately following the busi ness meeting of the Town Coun cill of Washington on Tuesday evening, .Mrs. B. R. Cox invite the mayor and the town counci members to come to the Clerk’ office, where they were entertain ed with refreshments- Assisted b; Mrs. DeBergh and Miss Ruth Ste vens, Mrs. Cox was hostess fo the affair. When a *box of deli cious home-made candy was pre sented to the ladies, it contained i card with this inscription: “Sweet to the ladies who are doing , magnificent job in town affair in “The First Washington of All.1
In the business meeting, preaid ed over by Mayor Dorothy C Davis, it, was decided to have i community Christmas tree pro gram on December 22, and Mra J. W. Price was designated t< see if the Culpeper Band woul< play on that occasion.
