Since then there have been lots of foreigners to move in, who .were not here in the stage-coach days. No one was killed then, no one is dying now for lack of ambulance*. In this small town there are quite a few private ears that are used frequently for ambulance service. Only one was reported with flat times on Hallowe’en night. We should realise that our children are not as old as we, and still go in for the Hal* lowe’en pranks, which today wo ■think are silly, and do a mean and seliish trick by calling the law.
We should remember Hallowe’en comes but once a year, the pranks played are only through fun.
There isn’t any use always complaining, and noticing every little thing our town boys do, but be pals with them. Kindness can go much farther than calling the Sheriff, or State Trooper*
Even though Spexryville has the reputation of always having a feud going either in the church, school, or the next-door neighbor, it is no worse now than in years past. All of us grown-ups could spend more time with our boys instead of our own personal interests, such as money dinner parties, etc. •
Street lights have been shot out in other neighboring towns, and even U.S. Government mail boxes, mail included, carried several blocks* but this wasn’t written up as being a disgrace, and sent out to all parts of the world as our Rappahanocnk Nows is today.
The.writer has been living in ■Sperryville for the past thirtytwo years, and never has there been born, passed through, or living in our midst an angel. The angels are yet to come. We all have our faults. Sperryville has roads that lead both east and west, north and south, so if we don’t Kke the little village, we can just get out Ere we leave, let’s take a dheck to see if there isn’t a little hit of good in the worst of us, and a little bit of bad in the best of us.—(Signed) Perle Coffey.
