72,000 Women
The week of November 11-17 is the kickoff week for on intensive recruiting drive to enlist 72,000 more women for various branches of the Armed Forces, before next'July, by the Department of Defense. If the goal is reached, the total number of women in the Armed Forces will be at least 112,000.
This week is known as “Women in the Services” week, and was off to a flying start with a nationwide radio and TV broadcast last Sunday by President Truman, Secretary of Defense Lovett, and Mrs. Anna Rosenberg, Assistant Secretary of Defense, all citing the need for women in the services.
In stressing the fact that women in the services now are given equality, opportunity, and promotion with whom they serve, Mra> Rosenberg was also emphatic in her statement that all branches of the Armed Forces desperately need more enlisted women and officers.
