•Here is the editorial comment from the Echo, under the title of Worthumbriacs:”

__ ™_ Book, published by the Virginia Press Association, reveals that, except for the Rappahannock News, which is pub-f lished in Washington, Va. (the original Washington, it claims) no other newspaper in the state originates in a community as small as Heathsville. Washington, Va., claims a population figure (245) that is five lower than Heathsville, although we'd have guessed that it had at least two hundred more. The Virginia Washington, like; Heathsville, is one of the older settlements but the News did not; get going until 1949. The Echo first saw the light of day in 1902 and we doubt that its first publisher, Mr. Warren Rowe, ever had any idea that his little paper (4 pages—about 6x8 inches) would

Oddly enough, the News has a woman editor but lest you think that the Virginia Washington moves smoothly on this tide of femininity, we should mention that the female editor views the female council, and especially the female mayor, as through a glass, darkly.
