EGG PRODUCTION

KEEPS CLIMBING

They’re plenty of eggs on Virginia markets now, and egg production is expected to keep on climbing until Abrils D. U. Livermore, poultry marketing epedalist at VPI, says this means that Virginia food shoppers, as well as food buyers all over the nation, can look for plentiful supplies of eggs on retail store counters during the coming months. Along with larger supplies, prospects are good for lower prices, keeping eggs on the “good buy" list. During the past two months eggs have dropped 20 cents or more per dozen since the seasonally high price which prevailed last November. On January 1 there were about 2 per cent more botential layers on farms than there were on that date the preceding year. More layers, combined with a continued high rate of lay, should mean that egg production for the first few months of the year will be considerably larger than in the first months of lp51.
