aiayi, are surrounded by four large white bracts. These bracts acted as bud scales during the winter and many people mistakenlytake them to l>e the flowers of the tree. A pink flowering Dogwood also occurs, flowering Dogwood thrives in shaded spots on moist fertile soils and is a slow growing long lived tree. Large trees of this species are difficult to transplant and when trees are to be moved from woods to home small seedlings should be chosen. Care must be taken in transplanting. Dogwood is also propogated with difficulty from seed and cuttings. Dogwood and Redbud are definately two of the most beautiful trees native to our woodlands.

Agricultural engineers at VPI’s Experiment Station may have found a way to reduce the cost of building a walk-in freezer on your farm. A pre-fabricated freezing unit has been under test in an experimental - “walk-in” room at the College for over a year, and the engineers beievo it could lie satisfactorily adapted for farm use. They reason that assembling the condensing \ unit, evaporator and accessories into one unit in the shop instead of doing the work on the site, will mean savings to the farmer. The ‘ pre-fabricated unit also can b® thoroughly tested in the shop where all the necessary tools are handy. ^ Once the unit is constructed in thig ‘ shop and placed on an insulated panel, ’ all that is necessary is for the work*•**-*• * it- -into the «freezer- .
