Dies At His F.T. Home
Luther Spillman Jenkins, 62, died Wednesday, November 12, at his home in the F.T. Valley.
A mail carrier for the past 32 years on the Culpeper to Front Royal trip, Mr. Jenkins was known throughout the county. Ever accommodating in running errands in the two towns for people in Rappahannock, he probably earned an unsurpassed record in helpfulness to the people along his mail route. From a card of needles to a cake of ice, Luther Jenkins became a fixture in the minds of Rappahannock folks in oheerfully getting their packages for them.
Along with the willingness to help his neighbor, Mr. Jenkins was equally as well known for his noisy and cheerful greeting. Regardless of where his mail truck passed a person on the highway, Luther Jenkins's hand went up to hail a greeting, and lie met his fellowman with a greeting of “Ho!” Full of fun and tease, he was ever-ready with a bit of wit.
