On some Virginia dairy farms it Mfcill pay to feed some molasses to help use a short forage supply efficiently. Ordinarily little will be gained by adding molasses to an excelent ration, except possibly when cows are on special production tests and high records are the primary objectiveWhen molasses is fed for a week or two before and after calving it may help prevent acetonemia or ketosils in cows.

Poor fall pastures in most sections of Virginia make it even more necessary for sheepmen to watch ewes due to lamb soon, and be sure they do not lose weight.
G. A. Allen, asociate animal husbandman at VPI, says ewes that lose weight during late pregnancy are subject to lambing paralysis. The ewes should receive about % pound of grain a day starting a month before lambing, until about a w'eek before, when the ration should be stepped up to i pound a day.
Allen also advises clipping wool off the rear quarters and udders, and shaving the heads of ewes due to lamb within the next month or two. Clipping will save wool and will help the ewes keep clean. Ewes with clipped heads will bring lambs in out of
