Molasses Valuable

Appetizer In Feed

Cane molasses, traditionally dubbed “black strip,” is a valuable appetizer in the menu for dairy cattle. R. G- Connelly, dairy husbandman at VPI, says malosses pays when fed as an appetizer with poor rations that need to be made more palatable for dairy cows. When molasses is sprinkled over unpalatable roughage, dairy cows tend to eat the roughage more readily and with less waste. The animals may be fed- up to four pounds of “black strap” daily.
