Last week both state and district personnel of several land-use agencies met for a briefing on the program.
The schools will include classroom discussion, followed by actual field experience in examining land areas. Briefly, the system calls for participants to judge different fields or pieces of land. They walk over it, examine the contour, top soil, and slope. They judge the texture of the soil, the permeability, depth, and drainage. They catalog it according to its capability, and make recommendations to conserve and improve the productivity of the soil.
