Newspaper folk have a way of teasing their neighbors in misusing the names of the county papers. For instance, the Sentinel becomes the Sentiment (or Sendiment), the Exponent becomes the Explosion, and our neighbor in Madison gets their Eagle referred to as a Buzzard. There really was a newspaper once called the Buzzard- It was published by one Samuel Lane, and the sole purpose of the paper was devoted to cleaning up what the editor called the “moral filth” of Akron. Mr. Lane was publisher of Several papers with colorful names, and equally colorful purposes. The Cascade Roarer was devoted to the crusade of temperance; while the Tee-Total Mechanic combind a crusade for temperance with one for the 12-hour working day instead of the customer 14 and 14-hour day of his time.
The old fellow was quite a character, and to have accomplished all he did in one lifetime makes one know that he was a prodigious worker.
