How to avoid garlic flavors in milk is a question confronting Virginia darymen these days.
R. G. Connelly, dairy husbandman at VPI, says there have been the usual seasonal complaints from farmers and distributors, and that some milk is being returned to the farms because of off-flavors. Here is his advice: Don’t let the cows graze garlicinfested pastures for three to five hours before milking. Instead, feed them good quality garlic-free hay and silage in a ,dry lot. They can graze immediately after milking.
