Canning Apples
County apple growers will receive a new benefit for this year’s crop with the cold storage houses at Flat Woods and Sperryville beginning a new feature. According to announcement, the cold storage houses will be receiving stations for canning apples, saving the local growers the transportation problem to canneries at Winchester, Mt. Jackson, and into West Virginia.
The new service at the cold storage houses will furnish containers; the picked apples will be weighed at Sperryville, at the juice plant, where an inspector will be on hand to grade; and the two cold storage plants will serve as storages and the canners can pick up loads at these two points.
