For many years the American people continued to be self reliant. Then for no good reason a change occurred. At first an almost imperceptible change and self reliance was replaced with an everincreasing degree of dependence on the govern-, ment. Far too many Americans were bitten by the security bug. They became infected with the poison of something-for-nothing. Let George do it. Relax, don’t worry the government owes you a lviing and more and more of the same.
Somehow we’ve got to get this country back to the basic principles of freedom and limited government on which it was founded. Our government must again be the servant rather than the master of the people. This cannot lie done overnight or by Congress passing a law. If it's done at all, it’s got to start in the hearts and minds of the people. We’ve got tothave the same abiding faith in and dependence on God which our forefathers had, rather than the present day dependence on government. We’ve got to, by our own efforts, take care of ourselves and our families and do what we can to help those who are unable to take own way must work out and provide care of themselves. Each of us in his for his own security, looking to government only for the protection of his life and property.
This won’t be easy, but then it wasn’t easy for the Pilgrims when they landed on that bleak Atlantic Coast. They had very little besides their faith in God, a burning desire to be free and faith in their ability to take care of themselves under any and all circumstances. They came through. We can too, if we've got what they had. Have we?
