Forester Urges Citizens To
Prevent Forest Fires'
The Virginia Forest Service is again appealing to the people of the Commonwealth to Prevent Forest Fires. We need the help of everyone, young and old, to prevent a serious outbreak of forest fires during this critical drought period. The small amount of ram which fell during the Week end was negligable and a few hours after the showers the woods were as dry as if it had never rained at all. Officials of the Federal Forest Service and State Forest Service report that the fire hazard is greater now than at any time during the past 30 years. The drought and burning indices are as high now in Virginia as they were in Maine during 1947 when over 30 million dollars worth of timber went up in smoke.
