With the changing of the leaves -and-their^ lettingi-loose to float lazily to the ground, fall comes to Rappahannock, in a burst of color and in the aftermath, a bareness. As the “ wind scatters' the dry leaves, a new scent pervades the air, and Hallowe'en with its witches, jack-o-lanterns, and scarry masks invades the world of youth. It’s fun ‘cause it’s dark and secret—you can shout and blow horns and peep under crooked masks. For one night you throw inhibitions out the window as you are whirled into this make believe environment.
Keep Pace. You’re really old if yotf can’t' summon a shiver at a sheeted figure’s shrill “boo.” And the housewife who ignores “tricks or treats” is quickly and rightly classed “an old fogey.”
But you fun-seekers—dpn’t carry your jokes over the line. Respect an individual’s rights—Hallowe’en does not let down the bar in this respect. Every year papers carry stories of jokes turned tragedies because of a momeftt of flight or a warped sense of humor. Have fun in a legitimate healthy way. Your neighbor likes to laugh too.
