In Amissville
Increasingly favored as a meeting place for civic groups, the new Amissville firehall will be used by at least three this month. , The , Home Demonstration Gub Amissville Baptist Church and the. local Polio Chapter_have already arranged to use the firehouse for special affairs.
“The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department is pleased that the firehouse is getting to be a popular meeting place - for local organizations,” said Thomas Tear, president of the VFD. “In this way we can serve the community in a double capacity”
At a meeting last week, when firehouse use by groups other than thfc Ladies Auxiliary was discussed, sentiment favored unqualified use by civic and religious groups but was chary about others.
It was felt that restrictions should be placed on use of the firehall by individuals or private organizations in order to safeguard the fire department’s reputation and the firehouse and its special equipment itself.
A committee, headed by Col. J. N. Caperton, was appointed to study the subjects and recommend regulations for the entire membership to discuss and vote on at a future meeting.
Other committees also were named at the meeting. The Finance committee will be chairmaned by Floyd Hitt who will be aided by Graham Hackley, Elmer Jenkins, Edward Tapp and A. J. Bailey.
