A special committee for the VFD turkey shoots, at which a shotgun will be given away, and which are scheduled for the first and t^ird Saturdays of this month, was also appointed.
W. A. Laing, Jr., who is vice president of the department, will be in charge of the shoots. He will be helped by Carl Padgett, Manuel Pullen and A. C. Latham, Jr. All receipts are for fire department benefit.
With only a little over $1,000 in the treasury, the department feels it i cannot afford a new firetruck costing anywhere from $10,000 to $12,000, even though its present fire engines sorely need replacement. .
One of its engines is a condemned one acquired from the District of Columbia fire department for only $50, a wonderful machine in its day but now almost ready for museum display. The other is a light Ford chassis firetruck purchased from Round Hill for only $200 when that community got a better one. The fire department at Pocomoke City, Md., has offered the Amissville fire fighters a 1949 firetruck with only 3,000 miles use for $2,500 and the District of Columbia has another truck available for about $500. Both are being considered. Members are making a special trip to both cities Jo inspect them.
Among smaller donations to the department was one for $25 anonymously, Treasurer Barron "announced at the meeting through— his deputy, Floyd Hitt.
