Heart Medal
Master Sergeant Thomas B. Reid, United States Army, has been awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received on June 13, 1953, while engaged in action against an armed enemy near Songnae-Dong, Korea. Sgt. Reid is also the recipient of the Silver Star for gallantry in action. In a notice to Sgt. Reid s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reid, of Washington, the following account is given:
During the early morning hours of 13 June, 1953, Sergeant Reid was the non-commissioned officer in charge o£ a mine- detail which had the assigned mission of laying a mine field on 'the forward slopes of a friendly outpost position in the vicinity of Songnae-dong, Korea. The mine detail was committed as infantry when the friendly infantry unit which was occupying the outpost suffered heavy casualties as a result of enemy action.
