An Essential Job
There’s many the man who bemoans the day that Drew Pearson penned his first biting column. They, no doubt, curse the fate that placed him in this country to pester them with his everlasting uncovering of shady deals. A disturber of the peace, is among the mildest of names hurled his way. Yet, think about this man Pearson and about his chosen job.
Is he a party man, concentrating on tfye evils of the opposite party. Or does he dip just as liberally into the juicy off-color dealings of one party as into those of another. Does he not base his revelations upon pure fact, and not hearsay or insinuation. Do not his well-laid facts push the wheels of investigation into these matters under question. And of not little import. Does not his syndicated column touching on far-flung communities, put the “fear of Pearson” (symbolically) into many, and cause another moment of hesitation before joining the league of traitors.
His is a necessary job. It is an unpopular, and often an unhealthy livelihood. We recognize the worth of his undertaking, and the high caliber of his accomplishment.
