Ihe Chairman points out that there are ample supplies of all major foods to meeit all civilian and military needs. Present production is on a scale to provide a considerably higher standard of diet than the average for 1935-39, and this, according to the Chairman, is an indication of the effectiveness of the program in which farmers and the Nation share the cost of practices which protect the Nation’s food and fiber producing ability.

“Any farmer who cooperates in ACP by building up the land’s resistance to erosion and improving its capacity to produce can be proud of his part in strengthening the country’s defenses and assuring ample food supplies for prseent and future generations,’’ H. S. Barksdale said.

Farmers who cooperate in this program must put up their share of the out-of-pockef costs of the approved conservation practices. In turn both the farmer and the Nation share in' the benefits from these practices.”
