Rabid Dog In County
Gene Autry Hitt of Woodville was on the trail of a red fox while hunting the morning of Janury 6, when he noticed one of his dogs acting peculiarly. Thinking the antics were caused by a stick in the dog’s throat, Gene put his hands into the mouth of the dog attempting to find the trouble. Finding no stick and observing that the dog continued to behave in a peculiar manner, Gene took the matter to the local veterinarian, Dr. Wake. He was advised to keep the dog under observation, letting it die a natural death (if rabies were the cause). Immediately aftey the dog died, tests were taken and forwarded to the laboratory. The tests were positive and the boy, Gene, was given shots to prevent any infection that may have been prevelant due to sores on his arm which came in contact with the dog's saliva.
