With only seven fires, Rappahannock ranked second from the bottom , in a1 compiled list of the number of fires reported in the Northern Piedmont District. These 7 fires burned 63 acres of land. In contrast, Albemarle ranked high with 55 fires J which burned over 14114 acres.Though Nelsno had less fires than Albemarle, 23, these extended over 305J acres.
Three hundred and eleven forest fires were reported in 1953 in the Virginia Forest Service sixteencounty Northern Piedmont District, according to District Forester D. G. Wilfong, Jr. This is an increase in the number of fires over 1952, when 232 fires were reported.
