A light breeze and dry weather laid a dangerous bed for fire Tuesday afternoon, when the county fire 1 companies were alerted by four-fire calls, from Flint Hill, Woodville, Washington and Scyamore Hollow vicinities. The first call, to Reve’s in Scyamore Hollow, was answered by the Sperryville Fire Company. Of undetermined origin the fire caused comparatively little damage. ,The 'Sperryville Fire Company, however, prevented the fire from reaching a house and a barn. The Washington and Sperryville Fire Companies were called to Linwood Fry’s property in Woodville. Three Fire Wardens and numerous R.C.H.S. students were on hand to fight the fire also. Fire destroyed1 a large area of land, including a tool shed, around 10 tons of feed and a large amount of fencing and posts. The fire was halted within 50 feet of a new sawmill owned by Mr. Fry. The Culpeper Fire Company, while fighting the fire in Woodville, were informed by rodio that a fire had broken out at Highway Garage near > Washington.

A trash fire nearby Highway Garage had gotten out of hand and spread to the used car lot. Six or seven cars were completely burned and the field next to the garage, scorched black. The Amissville Fire Company arrived first on the scene, but the cars were too far gone to save. The Front Royal, and Culpeper Companies arrived later.

While all four county companies were out on call, an alert from Flint Hill was received. A fire .had hopped from Robert Clatterbuck’s farm to the property of Will Dodson. Several fields of broomsage were burned. Hie fire was under control by the time the Front Royal Company, enroute home, arrived.
