.41 gives the response of Jesus. ' As Jesus was passing by He sees the man and the disciples ask Him the question as to why he was bom blind and Jesus answers, “I am not here to solve those problems, but to remove the causes of them”. He left their question dangling in the air and began immediately to perform the restoring of sight to the poor hapless man. He is not so much concerned— with our problems as He is with bringing joy, light and happiness out of them. He had just claimed to be the light of the world and now He was manifesting it through giving this man his vision.
Upon receiving his sight the rulers, scribes, and Pharisees imme- . diately challenged the man to tell how he received his sight and then refused to believe when he told them. They then asked the man’s opinion of the one who healed him and he proclaims Jesus a prophet. The rulers then try to persuade him to change his mind about Christ and because he refuses to do so they excommunicate him from their society and worship. They were so blinded by tradition, hatred, prejudice, etc., that they could not see the truth concerning Jesus. The man had greater" wisdom than they and grew rapidly in his apprehension of Jesus.
When Jesus heard about their actions toward the man He came and took the man into a new fellowship with Him. Their action showed that their religion, though it was Divinely created, had died spiritually. It had degenerated into a system of forms only.
When our religion becomes a sort of hokus pokus affair, that is keeping and observing a certain form or ritual we have departed from the original intent and are missing the object of worship all
