Proposal To Ban Beef
Sales On Sunday
For a few minutes Wednesday morning, the 45-minute long July meeting of the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors looked as if it had an “issue” when the proposal w&s made by a county citizen to “ban the county sale of liquor on Sunday.” Supervisor W. C. Campbell followed with the motion to back up the proposal, but it was soon apparent that the motion was to die, for. lack of a second. >
The main arguments presented by the supervisors, Commonwealth Attorney William Moffett, and James W. Fletcher, a citizen present at the meeting, were that this ban would serve no useful purpose as it would merely drive the drinking more underground and more rapidly into the hands of the bootlegger.
