Wins $50 Prize
In Friday’s Parade
A novelty unit representing 30 years of progress won $50 for the Washington Volunteer Fire Company in the Northern Virginias Firemen Association’s parade held Friday night in Front Royal. The unit was. led by 2 uniformed firemen displaying a banner "March of Time, 1925-1955," followed by a hose reel drawn by 4 firemen dressed in dungarees, red shirts and old firemen hel- j ments. Then came the 1923 chemical tank, chic with its new coat of paint .and- its gleaming brass. A modern fire truck (pumper) showed more advanced methods of fire fighting and the W.V.F.D. Rescue Squad ambulance, the company’s latest addition, represented the latest phase of growth. The hand siren and the queer rattle of the Brockway’s,engine drew much applayse along the route of the parade.
The fire company wishes to thank Merrill Motor Company for painting the old Brockway and helping to get it ready for the parade.
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department and, the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department were represented In the pande, whidt was- attended by an estimated 3,000, 4,000 persons. _In the parade in competition were 27 fire companies, 5 Drum and Bugle Corps, 3 bands, 4 rescue sqhads and 5 Ladies Auxiliaries.
