It gets extremely cold in Jordan and at Christmas-time was no exception. It was 4 coat weather. Last summer our Baptist Hospital at Ajlun had a face-lifting in the form of green paint. That along with the newly completed nurse’s home and out-patient clinic made ft look like a new compound. On the highest peak across from the hospital is a most interesting old castle. From that one ppint we tould see , the entire surrounding area of Gilead. How I hope that many of you can see the film which will accompany the fall mission study series—“Balm In Gilead.” Many places will become real, you will come to know a people long neglected and misunderstood. Perhaps, your Bible will have greater meaning as you actually see the dress, customs and people of the Holy Land today.
The hospital serves many villages which are both far and near. Sick patients will ride donkeys for hours coming to the hospitals I spent one day at the clinic at Krime in the Jordan River Valley. We left early by jeep. The recent rains made the road worse and more dangerous. Sometimes the driver would get out and throw rocks into the mud holes or just simply take to the fields. Only a 4-wheel-drive jeep could have possibly made the trip. It seemed that we held* to the slanting hills as if by gravity. As we descended it became warmer. By the time we had reached the Jordan Valley we had removed 4 coats and a sweater was too warm.
