space. The clinic, pharmacy and second-floor nurse’s quarters are connected to the hospital be* 4 breeze-way. At the other side of the compound a small building houses the teachers. In between are the laboratory, X-ray room, school of nursing, kindergarten room and upstairs rooms for doctors. The McRaes live in a large house near the entrance at the main gate. In *the States one would probably feel imprisoned living behind the high, thick walls that surround the compound. There, they are grateful for them.

Inside the compound is a beehive of activity. Gaza is unique in that the people are there and they come. The problem becomes that of having too many people. Over 200 children stood outside the gate for hours before the Christmas program. All of the new-comers had to be turned away as there was not room for them in the chapel, neither were there small gifts enough. I tried to get some pictures and was almost trodden. Baptists are the only ones in Gaza that are interested in the children at all. In spite of the human needs, ugliness and drabness of life, there is much beauty in the surroundings. The last dates dung to the trees and an occasional olive could be seen. The oranges were becoming sweeter and more colorful with each succeeding day. Gold fish dozed lazily on the bottom of the fish pond, and columns from the old port of Gaza formed seats while solitary ones stood like sentinels among the towering palms, pines and weeping peppers.
