hog prices probably will take some ups and. downs before the general downward trend sets in some time in August.
Right now, prospects are not especially good for fall hog; markets. The nation's farmers say they intend to farrow 11 per cent more sows between this June 1 and December 1, which means more hogs coming to market starting in October.
This is just a sign post now. ' Corn prices may change farmer intentions considerably.
COWS
If a man has the option of doing it, now is the time to sell cows. Prices have advanced 70 cents to $1 in-the past three weeks. Last week, Virginia auctions averaged $11 for all cow% with top cows averaging $14. >
Grass has been greeijer this spring and culling apparently has been light, but it wouldn’t take much change in this situation to bring cow prices down from their present level.
EGGS
Egg prices continued their usual seasonal advance last week, reaching 43 to 47 cents a dozen to farmers, with increases of as much as 5 cents a dozen on some markets. Local eggs in New York went as high as 49 cents.
