Chief8 Celebrate At "Best Banquet Ever* Feasting on home fried chicke 1 and old Virginia ham, around 5) Rappahannock Chiefs, Squaws and friends celebrated a successful 1955 season with their annual banquet at Guy’s Restaurant, Thursday night. James W. Fletcher, guest speaker for the banquet, praised the Chiefs and their manager for their fine work, pointing out the resulting spirit of friendliness that was evident between the comj munities of Sperryville and Washington. It was a far cry, he recalled, from the baseball games of yesterday, when the two towns; on opposite benches, would meet each other, ending with Washingj ton or Sperryvjlle losing no time getting home. Manager Mahlon Ramey pre-j sented a check of $200.00 to Roy; Leake, chief of th<* Sperryville1, Volunteer Fire Department, andj another of $200 to Bruce Bowie,j chief of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department. A stated amount was left in the treasurer for next year’s organiational expenses. Bob Estes gave a financial report of the club’s gross intake, their expenses and the flet receipts.
Following the banquet, Mahlon Ramey, at the request of the players, agreed to act next season as manager of the Chiefs. At his request an assistant manager was appointed, in the person of Roxy Clater. , ' , . ,
