Did you know that a knife wound used to be treated with a powder made of dried vitriol, applied to tha knife that caused the wound? Lucky fur us that this was in tha 17th century.

Though it's indeed strange to ns today, tha old method was practiced hy no less a person than John Winthrop, Jr., chem1st and pharmacist, son of the first governor of tha Massachusetts colony.

Ben Franklin sold various medicines at his Philadelphia shop. Among others, ho recommended seneca and rattlesnake root for pleurisy.

The first prescription drug store in the United States Was established by another Philadelphian, John Morgan, in the 1740’s. A friend of George Washington, -Morgan served as surgeon in the French and Indian War, as chief dispenser in the Pennsylvania Hospital pharmacy, and later as chief physician of the Revolutionary Army. Morjgaa also founded the first American medical school.

The amazing progress in medicine and pharmacy since these pioneers of earlier centuries did their work is truly so thing to bo thankful for.
