Graveside services were Mid for James Garfield Carter, son of the late Annie L. Carter, October 22, 1955, age 73 years. Mr. Carter departed this, life at his home Thursday, October 20th at 6:30 ajn. Services were conducted by the Rev. Thomas L. Proctor. Pallbearers were Hugh Starks, Clarence Dearing, Marshall Fletcher, Lewis Carter, Robert Jordan, Will Hunter. Burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Wash* ington, Va.

1SURPRISE PARTY ' The teachers and children from Washington School gave Curtis Cliflin a surprise party Saturday night at his home. Delicious rei' freshments were served and a donation from the school Junior League and teachers, Mrs. Boddie and Mrs. Dade. Miss Annie Carter assisted in serving. Those attending the party were Gloria Brent, Ted Barbour, Charlotte Barbour, Williaim Fletcher. Lois Fletcher, Billy Freeman, Margartt Fletcher, Junius Carter, John Turner, Wardell Timbers, Mary Dade, Nathan Fletcher, Coleman * Starts, James Johnson, Georgia Myers, Rachel Alsbury, Nannie Alsbury, Gladys Alsbury, Jimmy Alsbury and Mrs. Alsbury.
