Most of the soil and water conseravtion loans and loans to buy or improve farms are made from funds advanced by private lenders and insured by the agency Some of these loans, however, and all loans fo operating farms, are from annually appropriated funds, loans in areas designated for that purpose by the Secretary of Agriculture. In Rappahannock County, special livestock loans are authorized for farmers who may need funds to maintain herds, purchase of feed, seeds, supplies, fertilizers, repairs to machinery, etc. needed as a result of drop in prices, drought, freezes, etc. credit needs can be handled adequately by other credit sources.
The regular office staff of the Farmers Home Admin istration serving Rappahannock County consists of the county supervisor and Miss Alice Yancey, County Office Clerk. The office is located at 506 N. Main Street, Culpeper, and in addition to Rappahannock serves the counties of Fauquier, Fairfax, Prince William, Culpeper and Madison.
