In 1957, Glen Updike was selected to attend the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, from his winning record submitted to the State 4-H office on his achievements in his “Meat Animal Record.”
In the summer of 1958, Rappahannock 4-H’ers were again put in the limelight, when Rod Regan was the State Public Speaking Contest winner, and Jack Sisk was the State Sheep Shearing Contest winner. Again, that same year, Jack Sisk placed third in the National Sheep Shearing Contest held in Chicago, helping to put Rappahannock 4-H’ers on the “map”. . This past June, the County 4-H Livestock Judging Team composed of Randall Updike, Francis Updike, Walter B. Kilby and Lyle Updike won the State Contest held at State Short Course. Randall and Francie Updike were the top scoring individuals on the county team as well as top sooring indviduals in the contest and earned themselves a place on the State 4-H Livestock Judging Team along with two cjub members from Clarke and Montgomery counties. These boys will compete at the Eastern National 4-H Judging Contest on November 14th held at Tanonium, Md. and at the National Contest in Chicago November 27th.
