Begin In Shenandoah
National Park
R. Taylor Hoskins, Superintendent of Shenandoah National Park. has announced that the summer schedule of conducted hikes end camp fire programs will began June 15 for the 1960 season. Park visitors are urged to participate in these activities conducted seven <1 ay-4 a week through Labor Day) by Ranger-Naturalists under the direction of Supervisory Park Naturalist E. Ray Schaffner, ass'sted by Naturalist Wilbur Doudna. There are four seasonal men (from as many different states) who will help with the program. Each has had training in the biological s :ences.
The hikes vary in length from the 1-mile luck scramble over BeaTfence Mountain to the 4.4-mile round trip to White Oak Canyon Falls. Anyone in normal physical conditio'1 can kee1 pace as t :ps progress at the rate of 1 mile per hour. Comfortable clothing and -walking shots should be worn.
