are maintained for those who Cannot attend the conducted trips. One of these starts just off the north entrance road into the Skyland area and leads to Stony Man’s summit. The other is in the vicinity of the Big Meadows Campground and leads through meadow, swamp, and forest. Guide hooks are available from dispenser boxes at the beginning of each trail.
The best introduction to Park features is found at Dickey Ridge Visitor Center, 4.6 miles south of the Front Royal Entrance Station. Exhibits on history, wildlife and geology are found here. A short automatic slide program tells visitors what to see and do during their stay in Shenandoah.
Copies of the Visitor Activities program may be obtained at Park Entrance Station, information desks, and concession facilities, or by writing to the Superintendent, Shenandoah National Park, Luray, Virginia. The public is cordially invited to take part in these activities, for which there is no charge.
