Miss Dorothy Wood, a former resident of Rappahannock County, now living in Las Cruces, N. M.. has been awarded, the New Mexico Defta Kappa Gamma special scholarship which she will use for doctoral study in the field of Elementary Education at the L niversitly of Denver in Colorado.
The special scholarship program of DKG was established in 1958. It is made possible through chapter contributions in the United States antf Canada with 56 scholarships of 52500 each awarded one in each stale and province.
Miss Wood, a graduate of Washington High School, Washington, Va., was a member of the Woman’s Army Corps (WAC) for nine years. She is a teacher at MjicArthur School in Las Cruces, fro|m which she has a leave of absence to attend the University of Deinver for the 1960-61 school year.
She is active in educational associations from local to national level, holding life membership in N LA, and is a member of the -\EA department of audio-visual instruction and of the association of ^supervision and curriculum development of the NEA
She has been a member of local education association groups as well as jstate and national, and including the International Association of:Childhood Education, and was state representative to classroom teachers study conference in 1958 in (Washington, D. C.
She received her Master of Arts decree from New Mexico State University with a major in education and a minor in sociology, ind hafs continued graduate study at Denver.
