My Art Teacher

Miss (ilada B. Walker, Assoc iate Profes or of Art, completed last year. 17 years of teaching at Madison College. An active, lively person, she conducts her art classes with the desire to prompt students in "using their minds and eyes creatively." Her time and ejfort centered around the teaching of art, she is often seen hurrying through the corridor of Wilson s third floor (to classes) completng'this role.

Her previous teaching positions include: as Director of Art Department : Louisiana Polytechnic Institute. Florida Southern College, Lakeland Florida, Limestone College, (iaffey, S. C.; as Head of the Art Department: Appalachian State Teachers College Boone, N. C.; and as Supervisor of Art. Alexandria. La.

Miss Walker has exhibited paintings at the I'niv. of N. C. ( 1st prize for landscape). Womans Club Show, High Point, N. C.. various^ Regional Exhibitions of Paintings at Virginia Infemiont College Bristol, Virginia. Butler Art Institute, Youngstown, Ohio. Exhibition of Va. Artists’ work, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, Virginia.

As a hobby she enjoys making experiments. Oner she rooted various bulbs in her icebox ami grew them in her apartment. Her bedroom was bept at 50) for several months to have the bulbs exposed to the correct tem|vrature and her living room at 80> for the six-foot poinsettia she had grown. The poinsettia required 16 hours of darkness which Miss Walker provided for the “sake of experiment”. Her experimental nature haf*forced her to live with fluctuating temperature, dimmed lights, and sparse diet (lack of icebox space).
