REPUBLICANS BUILT MOST POWERFUL DEFENSE FORCES IN HISTORY Developed the most powerful nuclear diking force in the world, made up of SAC bombers stationed world-wide, ICBM’s naval task forces. IRBMs, other atomic weapons in U. S. forces or in Allied bates. Produced a missle arsenal of more than 20 operational types, with more powerful ones on the way. Built overall U. S. defense power to a peace-time high. Compared with last Truman peace-time year, defense expenditures are up 342 per cent, armed forces man-power is up 186 per cent, missle expenditure is up 5000 per cent. Developed 250 strategically located bases around the world, the support of powerful allies with 5 million ground troops, 2,500 combat vessels, 30,000 aircraft in addition to U. S. forces. Launched successfully under space program started by GOP, 21 earth satellites or space vehicles, providing the most significant scientific discoveries yet made in the world. Raised foreign trade to highest level, shifted mutual security program emphasis from grant to loan basis. REPUBLICANS EXPANDED HUMAN RIGHTS AND WELFARE Established Department of Health, Education and Welfare, bringing human problems to highest government councils. Sponsored first Civil Rights Act. in 82 years and 1360 amendments to extend and protect voting rights. Extended Social Security to 12 million additional persons, increased benefits to all. Spurred construction of 501,800 school classrooms, almost twice the number built, 1933-1952. Allocated $1 billion to research aimed at solving dreaded diseases, resulting in many life-saving advances. Secured passage of new labor reform law in 1959. Achieved Statehood for Alaska and Hawaii. REPUBLICANS BUILT PROSPEROUS AMERICA Raised U. S. standards of living to highest ever; more Americans are working, earning more, buying more, owning more and saving more than ever before. Boosted jobs to 65.6 million in 1959 with new records assured in 1960. Increased average family income over one-quarter and average weekly earnings of factory workers one-third. Held rise in cost-of-living to 10 per cent compared with 50 per cent under Truman. Pushed total production to $500 billion annually, a gain of 44 per cent in eight years. Initiated vast new 41,000 mile inter-state super highway system. .Managed ^jie Nation’s finances with integrity, cutting taxes and checking wild spending plans of Democrats. Achieved record levels for farm exports, assets, ownership and farms with electricity and telephones. Expanded conservation and cooperative development of water resources.
