But what an embarrassing situation! Went to take a picture of Mrs^Johnson on the train and the flash attachment refused to flash. Apparently the batteries were dead. Isn’t that a pickle for a reporter to be in. WeJl, next time I will take my camera instead of Sally's.
I just put the camera aside and enjoyed a chat with the lovely lady. I asked if she knew Mr. and Mrs. C. Raymojnd Wire of Chevy Chase and Rappahannock. She said she certainly did and remarked that they were very charming people and had invited she and Senator Johnson to The Shade many times but a busy calendar had so far pre■*> vented their coming to the county.
At Culpeper we left the train and listened to Mr. Johnson as he made his first speech to the approximate 1,500 people who greeted him in Culpeper.
And so back to work, picking up advertising in town with Mrs. Carson (Aline) Johnson (no relation to the Senator), who started to work Monday as a member of the staff of the Rappahannock News. Now if you have any advertising or news for your countypaper, Mrs. Johnson will take care of it. We are glad to have Aline aboard our News train.
In the past month, I have enjoyed getting out of the office and seeing all of my good advertisers again, but work has piled up and is waiting for me there.
