Conference
Thoughtful persons everywhere are looking forward with great interest to the White House Conference'on Aging, which was called by President Dwight ft. Lisenhower in 1958. *The date of the conference is January 9-12, 1961 and is the first major conference of the New Administration.
In speaking of the conference, Governor J. Lindsay Almond, Jr., said, “It represents another forward step in our efforts to develop a fuller understanding of the needs of our aging citizens and of the services and facilities necessary to meet adequately those needs.”
The General Assembly of Virginia in 1958 enacted Chapter 560,
an Act creating a permanent Commission on rh^Aging, whose duties are as follows:
I. To study the economic and physical conditions of the residents in the Commonwealth sixty-five yea is of age and over, hereinafter referred to as the aging, and the employment, medical, educational, recreational and housing facilities available to them, with the view of determining the need and problems of such persons.
