One of the most touching manifestation^ of this regard is found in the T’ang tomb figure of a camel now in the collections of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
The Museum’s camel is exceedingly interesting from two viewpoints.from that of the realistic information to be obtained from it and as a piece of, sculpture. Realistically one can' sgb quite clearly the sling or saddle which holds the load in place, the nntscular bracing of the animal to support that load, aixl the sense of balance the camel has achieved in order to make the load bearable. In addition it is possible to make out the gourds which were Ini water and the game, in this case a pheasant and a rabbit,
