The Virginia Museum is celebrating its 25th Birthday. In 1936, as the nation's first state-supported art museum, it was given a mandate to promote the enjoyment of art throughout Virginia. Today it is one of the leading sum-metropolitan museums in the world. Its pioneer Artmobile visits the cities and towns of Virginia, and traveling exhibitions go constantly to schools, libraries, clubs, k colleges and art centers throughout the Commonwealth. The nationally known director of the state museum, Leslie Cheek, Jr., describes the great masterpieces of art in the museum's collections — the cultural heritage of all Virginians. This is one of a series of articles which will appear each week in this newspaper.
