If you can get a tractor or truck close enough to the ground hog den, fasten one end of the hose to the exhaust, let the machine idle, insert the other end in the down-hill entrance to the den. Always close the other entrance with soil tamped down tightly.
Gas crystals are also effective. Gas cartridges, available through the Rodent Control Fund of the U.S. Department of Interior, of which Rappahannock Farmers Coop, Sperryville is sale agent in the county, lare excellent. Iffi using either of these materials follow directions on the container.
Remember that ground hogs migrate. You may kill all on your farm to find they have, in a few weeks, moved in from another. Get your neighbors to join the war against ground hogs. April is DMonth!
