1 ne first confirmed case of poliomyelitis in Virginia in 1962 has been reported from Frederick County. Two previous cases reported in January 1962 have not been confirmed by viral diagnosis.

The present case; a three-yearold white female, became ill during the latter part of May with paralysis of the legs, thought at first to be traumatic in origin.* Subsequently, specimens of feces and blood were sent to the State Health Department Laboratory which resulted in isolation of Type II poliovirus from the stool and a significant rise in titrt in paired blood sera. The patient had not received Salk vaccine.

Obviously, the occurrence of one case of poliomyelitis two months ago does not constitute an epidemic trend.
