“SOMEBODY OUGHT TO”
These words often introduce a suggestion of much needed activity. “Somebody ought to help that fellow’,’ is the sort of thing we often hear. “Somebody ought to be willing to teach a class or lead a group.”
The difficulty is, however, that very often the “somebody” should be the one who is speaking In many cases, we should be able to substitute “I” for “somebody.” That which is somebody’s responsibility is pretty apt to be my responsibility _
‘In civic affairs and church activities we find this sort of thing said so much. We need to assume more personal responsibility for the welfare of the church and the building of God’s Kingdom. The church is ours. It affords privileges; it makes demands and presents duties. By an equal sharing of the tasks, the work of the church is gloriously achieved. But cooperation is basic and essential. Just who is the somebody you refer to in such words?
"For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it" Luke 9:24.
