Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins of Shenandoah National Park stated today that many inquiries are being received relative to the annual fall color display . along . the 105rmile Skyline Drive. Many of those contacting Park Head* quarters are seeking information as to .when the peak period of the color may be expected; however, experience has, shown that' this is difficult to predict Inasmuch as it depends to a large extent on elevation and weather conditions, Hoskins said. He pointed out further that the beauty in the display is often a matter of personal preference.
Until this past week-end, conditions indicated that thegreatest brilliance might be* reached between October 10 and 20, with a possibility that it could be as early as the week-end of October 12-13. However, cool weather last Sunday night and the prediction that more of the same will follow could well step up color changes, according to Hoskins, who advised that anyone visiting the Park as early as next week-end should not be disappointed, although this is quite certain to be a prepeak period.
