to determine what effect the I past summer’s drought will j have, but ordinarily lack .of rainfall makes for a lesser abundance of color. Along Skyline Drive in the Park, there are color changes on the mountain slopes with eastern and southern exposures, with some yellows and, reds beginning to show up. The Virginia Creeper, always one of the first to. turn, is. showing a pronounced red at this time. Other red hues are being observed in the dogwood, black gum, and red maple. In the higher elevations some of the hickories, black locust, wild grapes, and redbuds are beginning to show yellow, and at lower elevations, a yellow tinge is apparent in the sycamore, tulip poplar, and sassafras.
