sion. A Highway spokesman said the proposed by-pass would extend from Benvenue around the south side of the town and rejoin Route 211 about a mile west of the town. An open meeting will be held January 9 in the courthouse so the people of the county may express their views and ask questions concerning the road. An allocation has been made previously for the reconstruct ion of the Massies Corner intersection of Routes 211 and 522. The overall plan is to add sections until 211 is a dual lane highway from Warrenton to New Market. Anticipated completion date is 1975.
Annual Inspection Needed To Remain Scabies-Free
The cooperative attitude of Rappahannock sheepmen and other flock owners throughout the Commonwealth exhibited last winter resulted in Virginia being classified by the Animal Disease Eradication - Division of the U. S. Department of Agriculture as a scabie6-free state on August 20th, 1963. What has been gained by earning this status?
First our sheep population is no longer threatened from within by a disease that can spread to large numbers in a short time and cause large economic losses. Tom Lee of Washington or Raymond Sutphin, Flint Hill had the misfortune to have their flocks become infected with scabies a few years ago. Either of these men can tell you flock owners, or potential sheepmen, better than I of the economic loss as a direct result of their infected flockexperience. Little wool; small thin lambs; the chore of dipping; etc. Also precautionary dipping of breeder and feeder sheep being moved to other areas is no longer compulsory These are but two of the gains. Status can be quickly lost.
